In October, Ireland made permanent a pilot scheme guaranteeing a monthly basic income for artists. Now the idea is starting to see push from artists in Scotland. The perception of throwing money down the well to fund ‘lazy’ artists is well and truly dismantled by every metric of its trial. It's time to get serious about how art and culture can function and survive in Scotland, even when the times are understandably tough.
