A group of Timaru women known for wearing red hats, turned their day a shade of purple on Saturday. The Red Hat Ladies, which has been running in Timaru for more than 10 years, celebrated their existence by getting dressing up in purple costumes outside the town’s north-endsign and having a photoshoot. Spokesperson Lyn Sommerfeld said the group had gone through a lot of changes recently, with members either leaving or dying of old age.
