This season, though, we think of all our children and what they have endured — not only this past two years but throughout the past two decades. Since the turn of the Millennium, these children have come of age during or been born into defining moments in our history. Is it any wonder our young people are trepidatious? It is less wonder still that they have mobilised and, informed by experience, are stamping their own political values on society around us? A more tolerant Ireland is emerging, the last vestiges of the dark clouds which have blighted their parents’ lives swept away.
