The public inquiry here should focus on whether enough regard was given to the threat of the virus in nursing home settings. However, the public inquiry should not become a point-scoring exercise. While the Government makes preparation for a public inquiry, it is also important that commemorative events take place at an appropriate time. The nation has yet to properly grieve for the great trauma that has occurred.
