But, one advanced technology that has been making my blood boil since it debuted in our digital culture is the rise of deepfakes and deepfake pornography since 2017. Admittedly, deepfakes aren’t as new as we’d like to think they are. The deliberate manipulation of photos has been around since at least the 19th century, not long after the invention of the camera. Deepfake technology is the latest tool to do just that: digitally manipulating peoples’ likenesses by using AI. And let’s not forget that deepfake technology is also affecting those outside of the public sphere.
