TRICHY: CISF personnel deployed at the Trichy airport caught a man when he allegedly approached former Tamil Nadu chief minister O Panneerselvam carrying a knife on Sunday.The man has been identified as Solairajan, 50, of TVS Tollgate area in Trichy. He is a barber by profession and has been an AIADMK member for the last 30 years, according to police.Panneerselvam arrived at Trichy from Chennai on a flight around 11.30am. CISF personnel tried to stop the crowd.Solairajan was among the crowd. A knife he was carrying fell on the ground. On seeing the knife, CISF personnel held him and recovered the knife.During the interrogation, Solairajan said he was keeping the knife for his self-defence.He was handed over to the Airport police.The police were inquiring whether he had brought the knife to attack Panneerselvam or carried it for self-defence, as he stated.
