African skills development for nuclear energy management


Thirteen member states were represented at this year’s Nuclear Energy Management school, hosted by the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa). The International Atomic Energy Association’s (IAEA) Nuclear Energy Management (NEM) school is a two-week learning event that provides participants with a broad international perspective as well as IAEA’s specific knowledge on areas relevant to the entire nuclear energy lifecycle. This includes nuclear licensing and regulation, nuclear energy policy, safety culture, nuclear fuel cycle, and nuclear safety, security and safeguards. African nuclear energy management is developingThe NEM school is also an opportunity for participants to network with their African peers. Necsa Group CEO Loyiso Tyabashe said they partnered with Eskom’s Koeberg Nuclear Power Station, the National Nuclear Regulator and iThemba LABS to provide this year’s training.
