Finally, after years of skyrocketing costs, lawmakers across the US have begun a push to cap the cost of insulin. This week, Virginia's House of Delegates almost unanimously passed a bill preventing insurance companies from charging a co-pay over $30 for a 30-day supply of insulin. Insulin is needed to treat all people with both type 1 diabetes and some people with type 2 diabetes. And while very little about the way insulin is produced has changed, the prices have skyrocketed -- some more than tripling over the past 10 years. "As a matter of policy, Sanofi supports capping patient out-of-pocket costs for insulin because of unjustified cost-shifting from health plans to patients who need insulin to manage their diabetes."
