Philippines AirAsia Inc. has ventured into the e-commerce space to take advantage of the growth in online shopping amid the coronavirus pandemic, which dampened travel demand. According to airasia.com Chief Executive Officer Karen Chan, her firm has partnered with e-wallet operators GCash, PayMaya, DragonPay, and Coins to facilitate payments for the items sold, which are delivered for free. “We are pretty well-covered” in the Philippines, Chan said. “Since the launch of airasia.com as the Asean super app last October, we have meticulously planned the expansion and availability of our product offerings to other markets,” she added, using the acronym of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. “Through further partnerships and collaborations, we look forward to offering convenient and value-for-money travel retail shopping in the Philippines and consequently increasing our presence across Asean in the near future.”
