CALGARY—The Alberta government has cancelled several public consultations scheduled over the next two weeks for their proposed park plan in Bighorn Country, due to concerns for the public’s safety. Alberta's NDP government has put forward a $40 million proposal for the land around Bighorn Country to help develop it for tourism, recreation and environmental conservation, but have now cancelled several public consultations on the issue. ( SUPPLIED )The government’s plan for Bighorn Country involves 400,000 hectares of land between Banff and Jasper protected and developed for tourism, recreation and environmental conservation. Nixon went on to accuse the government of rushing public consultation before this spring’s election. He called for the government to delay their final decision on Bighorn Country indefinitely until proper consultation has been conducted.
