At a press conference earlier on Monday at the Royal Alberta Museum, Notley evaded questions on the election date, saying the day was about the throne speech; tomorrow, well, she wouldn’t say what Tuesday would bring. The throne speech, delivered at the Alberta legislature in a packed and steamy chamber, harkened back to the four-decades of Progressive Conservative rule in Alberta, noting the Sky Palace and golf club memberships. “Canada’s inability to build new pipelines is costing the entire economy — both within Alberta and across the country,” the speech said. In remarks delivered after the throne speech, he slammed the NDP’s economic record, saying that “on the issues that matter most to Albertans, this throne speech was silent and this government a complete failure,” pointing to job losses and a sluggish economy that’s struggling to get unemployment down, especially among young men. “The NDP has the worst economic record of any Alberta government since the Great Depression nine decades ago,” said Kenney.
