Alberta man facing 63 charges in animal cruelty investigation

On Thursday afternoon, Ross Andrew Atkinson of Parkland County turned himself in and is being charged with 60 additional counts of permitting or causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to animals, RCMP said in a media release. On Monday, police said Atkinson, 50, faced three counts of the same charge, bringing the total number of charges to 63. Mounties have already laid charges against a woman in the investigation, Patricia Lynn Moore, also of Parkland County, who also faces 63 counts of permitting or causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to animals after 65 horses and six dogs were removed from a rural Alberta property on Tuesday. Police said all the animals involved are receiving appropriate care, and that neither the RCMP nor the SPCA are soliciting funds, feed, or support for the animals. They ask the public to guard against potential fraudsters looking to benefit from this case.
