Greece is battling wildfires on three major fronts, and Italy’s Civil Protection Department on Tuesday reported “extensive fires” across the south. Climate change and droughtNorthern and eastern Algeria battle forest fires every summer, but they have been exacerbated by this year’s Mediterranean heatwave. Serious fires have also raged in recent days in neighbouring Tunisia, especially the northwestern Tabarka region. In August last year, fires killed 37 people in the northeastern El Tarf region, a year after 90 died, mostly in Kabylia. Algeria also placed an order with Moscow for four water bombers, but reported that their delivery was delayed by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
