Despite being the largest country in Africa, Algeria has only 4.1 million hectares (10 million acres) of forest. Official statistics say Algeria’s hospitals treat between 5,000 and 10,000 food poisoning victims each year, with most of the cases taking place during the summer season. Food poisoning largely comes from fast food restaurants and other dining establishments, where government inspections have eased after the end of the Bouteflika regime. Weddings and other parties have been reported as being major sources of food poisoning, due to lack of proper hygiene.
