This year, an Iranian film could win an Oscar. If it wins Best International Feature or Best Screenplay, it'll be the second Iranian film to receive the honour (the first was Asghar Farhadi's A Separation from 2012, which won both categories). To Thai audiences, the release of Majid Majidi's 1997 film Children of Heaven at Siam Theatre was an eye-opening introduction to Iranian cinema. And yet the life in cinema of Iranian filmmakers has long resembled a different kind of war.
