Amazon wants employees to return to ‘main hubs’: WSJ

Amazon.com Inc. AMZN, +0.03% has warned employees that they may have to move to the company’s main offices in larger cities, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter. Amazon managers reportedly are telling employees at smaller offices about the possibility of relocating to “main hubs,” such as the Seattle headquarters and the New York and San Francisco offices, the newspaper said. The number of employees that may be affected by the change is unclear, it said. “There’s more energy, collaboration, and connections happening since we’ve been working together at least three days per week, and we’ve heard this from lots of employees and the businesses that surround our offices,” Amazon spokesman Brad Glasser said. Amazon stock has gained 55% so far this year, compared with an advance of around 18% for the S&P 500 index.
