The passing of Konjit Sinegiorgis (Amb.) Transactional approaches, short-term bargains, and interest-driven alignments are increasingly replacing serious, principled diplomatic engagement. In this sense, the passing of Ambassador Konjit is not simply the death of an accomplished individual. The continent must not succumb to these approaches at the expense of principled, strategic diplomacy. If diplomacy is to recover, it will require the return of seriousness, principle, and professionalism—the very qualities Ambassador Konjit represented.
