“Sex is [now] where the action is,” writes her eager young interviewer, ahead of his “tutorial” with her. I’ve never thought about the weirdness of sex as a subject. To prohibit marginal sex, she asserts, is to reinforce the “hegemony of mainstream sexuality”, and with it mainstream misogyny. Talking to My Students About Porn is pretty representative of the essays in The Right to Sex. But this is not to say that Srinivasan doesn’t occasionally embrace what some may regard as the un-embraceable.
