Anand Raj is Malaysian Bar president for 2026

KUALA LUMPUR (March 14): Anand Raj has been elected as the president of the Malaysian Bar for the 2026/2027 term, replacing Datuk Mohamad Ezri Abdul Wahab. At the Malaysian Bar’s 80th annual general meeting (AGM) on Saturday, Murshidah Mustafa was elected as the deputy president, with R Jayabalan as the secretary and Peter-Douglas Ling as the treasurer. “We will continue to uphold the values of the Bar and speak without fear or favour," he said, adding that 433 members attended the meeting. "This reiterates our long-standing position that the office of the attorney general and the office of the public prosecutor must be kept separate and independent. "We have seen that such a separation has been adopted in a number of jurisdictions, and it has generally worked better that way," he said.
