“The minister of finance worked with the ethics commissioner to ensure that he was following all the rules and laws… Everyone on this side of the House works with the ethics commissioner. By questioning Morneau’s conduct, they charge, opposition critics are really questioning the judgment of the ethics commissioner. Opposition leaders have been scrupulous to assure everyone that they have the utmost respect for the ethics commissioner. “We rely on the ethics commissioner to do her job,” Andrew Scheer told the Commons. If the ethics commissioner had done her job, we wouldn’t be in this mess.
