I don’t believe that these kinds of precision measures are working in the United States right now. We have over 50,000 new confirmed cases a day in the United States and over 1,000 deaths being recorded on weekdays. We’re not destroying society by doing a three-week or six-week shelter in place. I don’t have easy answers for what to do with K-12 schools but I have some thoughts. I am not worried that we will have lots and lots of sick children if school proceeds in a business-as-usual model, because the data are clear that kids — for the vast, vast, vast, vast majority of cases — do not get sick and certainly do not get severely ill when they’re infected with SARS-CoV-2.
