Angelina Jolie, an executive producer for the animated feature The Breadwinner, says the film draws attention to a critical international issue: women's empowerment. "The vulnerability of girls around the world is something that we just can't do enough to bring attention to and to focus on," she told CBC News in an exclusive interview at the film's Los Angeles premiere. Set in 2001, The Breadwinner weaves a strong message about the importance of standing up for oneself and supporting girls and women, themes now resonating closer to home. "As much as when it was in Parvana's story in 2001, it's important for men to step forward and to voice their support of women. "It sheds light on a country that I think is an extraordinary country but has been through so much," said Jolie.
