Donald Trump risked alienating some of his most fervent followers yesterday when he said that he would not pursue a criminal investigation into Hillary Clinton and rejected the support of extreme right-wing groups who have been inspired by his election victory. Mr Trump declared it would be “very, very divisive” for the country to prosecute his Democratic rival over her use of a private email server when she was secretary of state and over the Clinton Foundation charity, both of which have been the subject of FBI investigations.
