Anne Cox Chambers, a newspaper heiress, diplomat and philanthropist who was one of the country’s richest women, has died at her home in Atlanta. Chambers died early Friday, her nephew James Cox Kennedy told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, her company’s flagship newspaper. She was the daughter of James Middleton Cox, the 1920 Democratic presidential candidate and founder of Cox Enterprises Inc. Chambers; her mother, Margaretta Blair Cox; sister, Barbara Cox Anthony; and brother James Jr. initially shared interests in the company after James Sr.'s death. James Cox Jr. died in 1974, and Chambers and Anthony then held shared interest in the company.
