An unknown Scottish writer and an English author with two novels to his name are in the running for The Sunday Times Audible Short Story Award, the world’s richest and most prestigious international award for short fiction. Rachael Fulton, from Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway, has had just two stories published before being shortlisted for the £30,000 award with her entry, Call, while Jonathan Gibbs, whose work has twice appeared in Best British Short Stories, published novels with the independent imprints Galley Beggar and Boiler House before getting the nod for this year’s final list with his story A Prolonged Kiss.
