(SMC) is planning to build a peaking power plant — or a plant that operates when there is high electricity demand — next to its 1,200-megawatt (MW) Ilijan power facility in Batangas City. In a recent roundtable, SMC President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon S. Ang instructed SMC Global Power Holdings Corp. General Manager Elenita Go to develop the facility beside Ilijan. We’ve already acquired the property beside the Ilijan plant so we can develop another plant,” he said. Ang made the statement amid the power shortage the country is experiencing as certain power plants were offline or running at limited capacity.
