Builders claim 75,000 potential homes could be at risk because of challenges to fast-track housing schemes. The Oireachtas Housing Committee will hear from CIF today as it examines G overnment proposals to replace the Strategic Housing Development (SHD) scheme for projects of 100-plus homes. SHD applications go directly to An Bord Pleanála, bypassing local authorities and leaving objectors with no appeal route except by judici al review in the courts. “It is estimated that somewhere in the region of 75,000 potential family homes could be at risk as a result of this. A new large scale residential development scheme is proposed which would return planning decisions to local authorities but with tight, mandatory timelines.
