Could Apple’s reduction in iPhone X orders result in more mid-range smartphones available with OLED screens, taking away one of the key advantages of the iOS powered handset? As the iPhone X launched, Samsung Display was the sole supplier to Cupertino of OLED panels - the iPhone X being the first of Apple’s smartphones to use this screen technology. That led to the curious twist that every iPhone X sold not only generated revenue for Apple, but also generated revenue for the South Korean company’s display division. There’s also the revenue impact on Samsung of the drop in orders. With Apple cutting iPhone X orders by up to fifty percent this quarter (possibly as low as twenty million units), Samsung will have spare capacity or inventory of OLED plans for the start of the year.
