New data suggests Merthyr Tydfil could be next, with a larger outbreak of COVID-19 than Leicester per head. Cases rocketed in the last week, with 179 infections per 100,000 people followed by 141 cases per 100,000 people in Leicester, which was similar to the previous week. It comes after an outbreak at a food processing plant in Merthyr Tydfil where public health officials are monitoring the fallout. Despite Merthyr Tydfil appearing the most infectious part of the UK, government officials are more concerned over Leicester. Separate figures published by Public Health England on Thursday showed the cumulative rate of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population since the outbreak began.
