Armed man arrested near Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s house early Wednesday

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court said Wednesday that an armed man who made threats against Justice Brett Kavanaugh was arrested near the justice’s house in Maryland. Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn quickly used the incident as an opportunity to make a fresh push for the House to join the Senate in passing a Supreme Court security bill that would help protect justices. Cornyn introduced the bill after the leaking of a draft Supreme Court opinion overturning the landmark abortion decision Roe vs. Wade. Under current law, the Marshal of the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court police have the authority to protect justices at all times and also are authorized to protect officers or employees of the court while those individuals are performing official duties. The California man, in his 20s, was armed with a gun and a knife, according to a law enforcement official.
