Bed, Bath & Beyond this year introduced online ordering for in-store or curbside pickup and made some stores online fulfillment centers in a bid to meet growing e-commerce demand that has picked up because of the pandemic. Bed, Bath & Beyond, under pressure from rivals from Amazon AMZN online to Target TGT on the physical store front, posted four straight years of lower comparable sales even before the pandemic. While rivals like Williams-Sonoma WSM ended this past fiscal year with more than half of their sales online, Bed Bath & Beyond had only about its one-fifth of sales through e-commerce. One common criticism of Bed Bath has been that without its 20% off coupons and other promotions, national brands such as Cuisinart kitchen supplies can often be found cheaper elsewhere.
