As Liberia Electoral Process Drags, Muslim, Christian Clerics Opt For NEC Chairman Removal -

As uncertainty looms over the November 8, 2017 run-off election in Liberia, and the reported discovering of massive frauds and irregularities at the National Elections Commission (NEC) during the October 10, general and presidential elections, the removal of the Chairman of the NEC has become the target of discussion as two religious leaders are demanding his removal. The two leaders from both the Islamic and Christian religious groups in their separate statements with the same tune, said their recommendations for the removal of Cllr. Jerome Korkoya as Chairman of the electoral body is to help bring about peace during these elections, and for Liberians to choose who they want to be their leaders. The runoff between former international footballer George Weah of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and Vice President Joseph Boakai of the governing Unity Party was originally set for November 7. But Liberty Party candidate Charles Brumskine, who came third in the first round on October 10, claims fraud and irregularities tainted the results, leading the Supreme Court to put a temporary stay on preparations.
