My first trip to Israel was in the early 1980s to meet my father’s younger brother Janek and his family. Area A is exclusively administered by the Palestinian Authority, and it is against Israeli law for Israeli citizens to travel there. That experience on the West Bank was a seminal moment for both my children, but in different ways. I am not the only proud Jewish person who is deeply disturbed by the violent unrest currently engulfing Israel and the Palestinian people. The same can be said about their willingness to conflate genuine criticisms of Israel’s record on human rights with anti-Semitism.
