Firefighters in Riverside County made progress in battling four wildfires Sunday as a heat wave broke records across the state and sent residents scrambling for relief. Firefighters were also making progress against other fires burning near Moreno Valley. Temperatures on Sunday hovered near triple digits in the San Fernando Valley and reached them in the Antelope Valley. "So much for our cooling center!" The particularly stagnant warm air mass is now centered over California, trapping heat near the surface — known as a “heat dome,” said Elizabeth Adams, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's San Diego office.
