U.S. stock futures and Asian markets rose modestly late Tuesday, as investors welcomed initial results from the American midterm elections. S&P 500 futures rose 0.1% and Dow Jones Industrial Average futures gained 0.2%. In Asia, Japanese stocks rose more than 1% and Korea gained nearly 1%; markets in Hong Kong and mainland China were essentially unchanged. The dollar rose against two currencies that are known as havens for investors looking to avoid risk, the Japanese yen and the Swiss franc. Instead, after President Trump’s victory, U.S. stocks surged, gold slipped and the dollar recovered to rise against the yen.
