He remarked that the “British acceptance of cremation might soon be a feature of life in this country”. In 1982, a cremation cost £50, with the internment of ashes in the garden of remembrance an extra £45. In 2026, the cost of cremation starts at €850, and graves can cost up to multiples of that.
