Approximately 8,325 workers were eligible to vote whether to become part of the Amazon Labor Union. Amazon papered the walls at JFK8 with banners that proclaimed “Vote No,” set up a website and held weekly mandatory meetings. Overall, roughly 2,300 ballots were cast in the election in Bessemer, Ala., out of more than 6,100 eligible employees. It’s been a couple of political generations since organized labor had this kind of opportunity to wield this kind of clout.
