At Least Six Dead in Gambella in Protest Demanding ChangeBy Staff ReporterSeptember 25, 2018 - At least six people were killed and several others injured in Gambella state of western Ethiopia after security forces opened fire against protesters who were demanding for change in local government. Witnesses told Ezega.com that the protesters were also demanding for ongoing political reform at the federal level to trickle down to their region as well. Gat Luk said the killings followed unannounced demonstration held by youth group called Dagim who clashed with security forces. Members of Nuer ethnic groups reportedly constituted the majority of the protesters who entered into conflict with members of Anuak ethnic group before members of defence forces took action to calm the situation. According to reports, Ethiopia is now home to the largest number of internally displaced people in the world.
