At Princeton University, Rahul Gandhi calls for transparency and openness

In a wide-ranging address to Indian students at Princeton University on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi said that a lack of transparency and excessive centralization of power were among the most pressing political issues facing India today. Commenting on the current government, the Congress Vice President said he agreed with some of its policies, including Make in India. The place where transparency and decentralization are most needed, said Gandhi, is in Parliament. Gandhi suggested people outside government, including experts and even the students present at the talk, could also become involved with lawmaking. “So, decentralize, make the district courts actually work, make the state courts actually work and solve the problem at the periphery instead of bringing every single problem to the centre.”The Congress leader winds down a two-week tour of the United States with a public event in New York on Wednesday.
