An Auckland "professional" is facing hefty fines after being clocked travelling at 217kmh on the Waikato Expressway. The man, in his late 30s, was one of 11 drivers police caught travelling over 130kmh on the road stretching from Hamilton to Auckland on Saturday. A highway patrol officer caught the man on his radar heading south from Auckland towards Hamilton, Senior Sergeant Pete van de Wetering of Waikato police said. While the officer was speaking with the driver his radar locked onto another car travelling in the opposite direction at a speed of 184kmh.
