Lilos drifting too far out, people getting stuck in riptides and “tombstoning”, where people jump from cliffs or sea walls into the water, all pose risks. But cold water is also a threat. While the air may be warmer in the summer months, UK and Irish waters seldom exceed 15C, which is cold enough to trigger cold water shock.
