In total, the BFA was able to record 257 deportations of Indian nationals who were required to leave the country in 2023 – 180 of them voluntarily and 77 of them by force,” the statement reads. Austria’s Ministry of the Interior, together with the Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum (BFA) has tightened efforts for the repatriation of Indian nationals whose asylum applications in this country have been rejected. Earlier this year, Austria and India reached an agreement in order to curb illegal migration. The Minister noted that the number of asylum applications from Indians in 2021 was lower, stressing that in the same year, 600 asylum applications by Indian citizens were filed in Austria.
