Albom and his wife took in Chika, who was suffering from an almost-always fatal tumor, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). They lovingly cared for Chika, so full of life despite her dire illness, and took her to medical appointments. But here was this curious little girl, days after brain surgery, intent on digging a fork into a muffin and getting it to her mouth before it crumbled. I look at Chika, this little girl – not our girl, and yet our girl.
