Average daily U.S. coronavirus cases dip below 100,000 for 1st time in months

Average daily new coronavirus cases in the United States dipped below 100,000 in recent days for the first time in months, but experts cautioned Sunday that infections remain high and precautions to slow the COVID-19 pandemic must remain in place. That average dropped below 100,000 on Friday for the first time since Nov. 4. “We are still at about 100,000 cases a day. That number peaked at more than 3,300 earlier in the winter, according to Johns Hopkins. And we have to continue getting vaccinated as soon as that vaccine is available to us.”The U.S. has recorded more than 27.5 million coronavirus cases and more than 484,000 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins data.
