Zakia Zabin, wife of imprisoned Maulana Abdul Hakim, made the statement at a press briefing at their Hazipara residence in Thakurgaon town on Thursday afternoon. Hakim is the chief of Jamaat-e-Islami’s district unit and is running in the 11th general election with BNP’s sheaf of paddy symbol. Zakia said Hakim’s continued imprisonment was a “government conspiracy” to keep him out of the election and it was equivalent to contempt of court. Jamaat leader Hakim was arrested by police in a sabotage case from his home back in November. He had contested twice as the BNP-Jamaat candidate from Thakurgaon 2 in the ninth and 10th general elections.
