In an advisory on Friday, the BSP Corporate Affairs Office said Espenilla’s leave would last from January 4 to 21. Espenilla, who was diagnosed with tongue cancer in November 2017, last took medical leave from Sept. 19 to Oct. 26, 2018. The Bangko Sentral chief earlier underwent surgery and radiation therapy, which he said had resulted in a dry throat and mouth sores, and also speaking difficulties. The 59-year-old Espenilla, formerly deputy governor for banking supervision, was appointed BSP governor in May 2017.
