Over 150 years after the first instance of religious violence reported at the Babri Masjid site under the British Raj, Supreme Court in 2019 delivered a verdict paving the way for the construction of Ram Mandir. On January 2024, Ram lalla idol (idol of Lord Ram as an infant) was consecrated at the newly-built Ayodhya temple. Prime minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ram temple at Ayodhya, marking the culmination of contemporary India’s most bitter dispute. Months later, in the midst of Lok Sabha elections, addressing his second rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar, prime minister Modi told the crowd that he needs 400 seats to ensure “the Congress doesn’t put a Babri tala (lock) on the Ram temple".
