Balance of power on Toronto city council could depend on just a few races

One thing everyone knows about the upcoming city council election in Toronto is that Premier Doug Ford has turned it into a big battle royale of incumbents — a political bloodbath in which long-standing councillors across the city are facing off against each other. Though the premier made it clear his move to slash city council was intended to hurt leftists, it isn't clear that the right wing of council will emerge with a majority in the upcoming election, writes Edward Keenan. The safest bet in city elections as long as I’ve been watching is that most incumbents will win. There are four right-wing incumbents running without having to face another incumbent (Mark Grimes, Christin Carmichael-Greb, Denzil Minnan-Wong and Michael Thompson). The balance of power could come down to a few close races.
