A ban was introduced in March as the Government ordered the first coronavirus lockdown, but visits were allowed to resume in August. However, Shadow Justice Minister Karl Turner has written to Justice Secretary Robert Buckland calling for a halt in the run-up to Christmas. In his letter to Mr Buckland, a former crown court judge, Mr Turner says the “continuation of enforcement visits is both punishing and unnecessary”.
