Banff restaurant owner sues town and RCMP for $700K over arrest for camping in front of her own home

McCoy claims she suffered mental and physical pain due to the alleged misconduct and now fears and distrusts law enforcement. A Banff restaurant owner is suing the town of Banff and the RCMP for $700,000, alleging she was unlawfully arrested for obstruction after being cited for camping in front of her home. McCoy claims she was never given an opportunity to call a lawyer and was held for approximately nine hours before being released. McCoy claims the bylaw officer told them they were camping illegally on the side of the road and she replied that they lived there. McCoy says she was then taken to the Banff RCMP detachment and forced to take off her shirt in front of two male officers.
